Hey everyone, Although I've read through various tsundere definition pages, have hit up TVTropes, and have clicked on every single Tsundereshark link I can find, I'm very aware that I'm lacking in a "deep" understanding of the tsundere archetype, as well as other common anime/manga character tropes. If you're a Heinlein fan, I'm trying to say that I just don't grok it all yet So if anyone can point me to anime/manga that have characters who embody the various personalities we're going after, I'd appreciate it. Visual Novel examples are even better, since that'll help me conceptualize structure in addition to thematic elements of the genre. As an aside, I've played Katawa Shoujo, and I'm looking into Hatoful Boyfriend. I've seen what I guess could be considered "mainstream action" anime - Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, FMA (original, some Brotherhood), Ruroni Kenshin, some Naruto, some Outlaw Star, Hellsing, Attack on Titan (!), FLCL, Paranoia Agent - but I haven't really gotten into any comedies/day-to-day stuff (as a second aside, any suggestion of anime that I might enjoy based on the list I just posted would be appreciated as well ) Thanks!

Good examples of tsunderes from anime that I would recommend watching: Taiga Aisaka from Toradora! (Rom-com) Kurisu Makise from Steins;Gate (Sci-fi, also a VN adaptation) Kyou Fujibayashi from Clannad (VN adaptation, Afterstory made me cry)
As for VNs, I recommend(I haven't finished all of these; some are based off recommendations from other people): SFW: Narcissu(short), Symphonic Rain(medium), Rewrite or Little Busters!(long). NSFW: Grisaia no Kaijitsu, G-Senjou no Maou, Muv-Luv series

I think Akane from Ranma 1/2 is a great classic example of a tsundere. A character that's outwardly abrasive but inwardly gentle, with a crush on the main character that they'd rather die than admit.
The line "It's not like I wanted to x you or anything..." is a stock tsundere phrase that shows the character really did want to see/help/go with/kiss/become balloon animal gods with you, but they don't want to admit that because they have a love/hate relationship with their love interest.
If you're looking for anime tropes in general, try School Rumble. It hits many of the major ones while still managing to be a fun and entertaining trip that'll leave you wanting more even after two seasons.

Also, maybe check out Love Hina, because it somewhat codified the modern harem anime genre that many VNs use as their base.
The World God only Knows would be perfect to check out, because it is at once a deconstruction and total celebration of VNs and their tropes. It's also really good.
And for personal enjoyment, Blue Exorcist is an amazing anime I don't hear enough people talk about that would probably be up your alley.
Azumanga Daioh is sort of the ultimate slice-of-life if you're looking to try that.

Awesome, thanks guys. Doesn't look like these are on Netflix, so I guess I'll have to go through other avenues.

If you want legal options, you can try either crumchyroll, hulu, or funimation. There's a also a few really nice sites for the not so legal route.
