Since we still don’t have a name for the brainy hammerhead (at least as far as I know), I’ll just use <arrow things> for now
--While looking through the library and trying to get a feel for the school, Scuba notices that he’s being watched. After the perpetrator barely avoids being caught several times, Scuba decides to sneak around and try to find him/her. He pretends to go one way, then quickly runs around behind shelves and flanks him/her. When he rounds one final corner, he sees a shark with an oddly shaped head peeking out the other side. The shark has a girl’s uniform and appears to be holding a notepad--
“Hmmmm... Since it’s in an unknown environment, the human has lost all sense of reason and resorted to its primal instincts to flee. Fascinating.”
“Hey, were you looking for me?” Scuba asks somewhat mockingly as he slides up behind her.
The shark quickly whirls around, visibly flustered. “Huhhhh… heeeeeeeeeeyyyyyaaaaaaaa!” she screeches, desperately trying to cover her face with the notepad. Confused, Scuba glances at what’s written on the notepad. ‘Human does not appear to travel in packs. Human has never been seen sleeping, possibly because it feels too afraid to expose itself in a hostile environment. Human exhibits a distinct lack of a tail or fins of any sort. Due to its lack of visible teeth, I hypothesize that some species of humans may be herbivores, not omnivores as originally believed. Due to a lack of necessary exterior organs for other means, I believe that humans may reproduce asexually by budding. However, more research is needed to verify…’ What the heck is this? And why is everything completely wrong?
Scuba pushes the notepad down from her face gently and looks her in the eyes. She immediately averts her gaze to the floor and blushes slightly. “Why are you following me and writing weird things about me?”
“Ummmmmm… well, you see… I, uhhh… I have to work on a project… and, I… well…” she trails off.
“A project? Well, if you wanted my help, you could have just asked me... I mean, I don't know what you're trying to do, but...”
“REALLY!? YOU MEAN YOU’LL REALLY HELP ME!?” She suddenly bursts out.
"Oh my gosh, I get to talk to a real human! This is amazing! The opportunity of a life time! I finally..."
“Well, I mean, if it’s something I can do… in exchange, though, I’d like it if you stopped following me around everywhere. It’s really kind of creepy...”
“Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa, you think I’m creepy! I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” She frantically apologized, bowing her head each time.
“Uhhh… no, no, it’s fine, really. I didn’t mean it like that. I just… well, what exactly did you need me for, anyway?”
She has some tears in her eyes, and he words are somewhat choked. “I just needed some information on human behavior for my research project, and, well, since there was a real live human here, I just figured…”
“So you just need facts about humans? Well, for starters, almost everything you wrote on that notepad there is wrong. Like here: reproduction by budding? I don’t even know what that…”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
“Woah, um… please don’t feel bad. Humans are really complicated, even we don’t fully understand ourselves…” Unsure of how to comfort her, he reaches out and pats her on the head. “Just ask me whatever you want to know, and I’ll answer as best as I can”
“Re… really?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Suddenly, she’s extremely excited again. “What do humans eat? How do you chew food without teeth? How do you swim without a tail? Can you survive in any waterless-environment, like space? How do you perform the mating ritu…”
“Woah, ok, slow down. We’re not going to get anywhere like this. Here, I’ll make a deal with you. Come see me again here tomorrow with an organized list of questions and I’ll answer them as best as I can. How’s that sound?”
--aaaaaand since it's getting so long I'll end it there for now--
Some thoughts after writing this: I guess I got kind of carried away and mine is now a bit on the longer side... oh well. Most of it ended up as an explanation of the setting though, without which the dialogue would make very little sense (I suppose the format is off. It's more like a book than a VN. I'll fix that next time though). Also, I didn't exactly proofread this thoroughly, so it won't be great. The actual conversation felt a bit awkward when I was writing it, but I guess at least partially because I kind of had to force myself to think of a scenario (It was kind of short notice so I didn't have anything planned out yet. I'll make something in advance next time so you can get a better idea of my writing style). It's also totally 3 am here. Why am I still awake...
After reading it through and making a couple changes, though, I'm fairly happy with it as something I wrote up quickly. Still not perfect though
