Hey everyone. I was thinking that we needed to get a list of common locations together so that we can actually build the school and make sure that the art department knows what they're doing vis a vis background drawing. Besides that it'll lend a bit of coherence and continuity to the VN if we all know the proper layout of the school.
So just based on how I've seen storylines and whatnot be fleshed out so far this is what I've gathered as far as what we'd need for backgrounds and therefore locations:
Things we NEED:
A small fishing boat
A foyer At least one hallway A principal's office At least two classrooms (Senpai/kohai can't be in the same class) but likely 3 A track&field area of some description (Likely outdoor) A library A beach (Underwater?)
Things we should PROBABLY HAVE:
A dormitory with a couple rooms A cafeteria A few outdoor shots of the campus An off-campus outdoor location (city/shopping district etc) A field A shot of the sky (?)
ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS:
A cafe of some description A more formal restaurant/date location
If you have any other ideas feel free to post them here. Alternatively if you have any skill with mapmaking it would be great if someone could blueprint the school.

If we want to include more tsundere cliches we might want to have the school roof as a location, too.
Though I've been thinking about what kind of things we can do because of the setting. For instance, there might not need to be stairs to get up the roof.

There's a few general options for the school layout that I can think of.
We take the generic Japanese school building and put it underwater. Maximal silliness.
We take the generic Japanese school and alter it just enough to show that it's supposed to be underwater.
An open-water school with "rooms" indicated by landmarks you're swimming above.
An underwater cave system.
A sunken ship.
A full-fledged original building made with three-dimensional swimmers in mind.
I'd like to take a stab at the last one, but it is the most complicated and would take the longest to flesh out, so practically speaking it's not the best.

I was thinking we go for maximum silliness on this. Like, as close as we can get to just throwing a blue filter over some pictures of a Japanese school without it looking hastily made, haha.
EDIT: Obviously since the backgrounds will be original it'd be like...surrounded by coral and seaweed and whatever. But something about that idea makes me giggle.

For those of you that have seen Nagi no Asukara, I think they had a pretty good example of an underwater school.

Part of the reason I like the 'Just a Japanese school but underwater' gag is that it opens the door for a lot more stupid comedy. For example, the school could have a pool.

Why not just have it be filled with water?

Hot Springs are a must! Maybe a haunted shipwreck too so they can go on a test of courage.

Hot Springs are a must! Maybe a haunted shipwreck too so they can go on a test of courage. If we want to parody more anime tropes than necessary (and let's be honest, we do) we could have the steam from the hot springs conveniently censor parts of the sharks' anatomy, despite the fact that sharks generally are naked in real life.

So it's like a "It's okay to be naked except when we're bathing or changing" type thing? Yeah. I was thinking about this episode of spongebob where the bubbles are covering Squidward since he'd otherwise be naked, but he usually only wears a shirt that doesn't go that low. And combining that absurdity with the anime trope I mentioned How much clothes will the sharks wear anyway? I expect we'd want to keep it as close to the edits we've seen in the sub as possible by having them have ribbons but nothing else? Maybe when they're at school they could have a sailor uniform collar but not the rest of the shirt, like the subreddit's snoo?
